Mumbai hosts project cargo forwarding training

Project cargo forwarders from throughout India are invited to register for the Certificate of Achievement in Project Cargo Management training course at the Trident Nariman Point Hotel, Mumbai, from February 1-2, 2016.

The ISO-accredited training has attracted over 450 students from 80 countries since its launch Mumbai in 2009.

The course is also certified by the Project Management Institute (Arabian Gulf Chapter) for education and training in Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

The course trainers are the founder and general-manager of overdimensional transport network the Project Professionals Group, Kevin Stephens, and business communications consultant and university educator Rodger Hall.

Hands-on workshop format enhances learning

The course modules included project cargo case studies, risk management, strategic partnerships, value adding strategies, traffic and logistics functional planning, meeting client expectations, biosecurity, working with brokers, and preparing quotations.

Stephens offers students a unique insight into project cargo management with 45 years’ experience in the industry.

His presentations feature “tricks of the trade” that attendees can apply in their own careers.

“Successful project forwarding requires a high level understanding of what can go wrong and the skills to counter these challenges,” Stephens said. “Another concern is that project forwarding is experiencing increasingly larger and bulkier cargos from manufacturer to site with tight timeframes and high cargo values that means those involved must have the capabilities to avoid problems that can have a substantial downstream impact.

“The Certificate of Achievement in Project Cargo Management was developed to understand better these downstream impacts, and how to successfully manage complex heavy-lift projects,” Stephens said.

Professional business communication addresses crisis communications, persuasive email, cultural communication, pitching with PowerPoint and how to write winning tenders.

Hall says that market research consistently indicates that one third of employees write poorly and this is a problem businesses are finding very costly to correct, for example having to redo the work because of misunderstandings with clients and customers that loses time and money.

“Good business writing is a life skill that project cargo managers need to enhance their personal and company brand throughout their careers,” Hall said.
