Abnormal load training in Africa guides international success

Combining an understanding of abnormal load transportation tricks of the trade and improving how to communicate in a competitive business environment are critical to the success of the African heavy-lift logistics sector, according to two international trainers invited to attend the Breakbulk Africa Congress in February.

Kevin Stephens, the founder and general manager of project forwarding network, the Project Professionals Group, and business communication educator Rodger Hall, are the instructors of the ISO-accredited Certificate in Project Cargo Management professional development course on 16-17 February as part of the education program during the Congress at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.

Mr Stephens said the ability of African project forwarders to improve their skills and knowledge was critical to manage successfully the super-size cargos that were becoming common place.

“This training is very relevant to African logistics service providers who are facing the challenge of managing the transportation of abnormal loads that are heavier and more overdimensional than ever before,” Mr Stephens said.

“The Certificate in Project Cargo Management is focused on providing African forwarders with specialised skills and knowledge that they can quickly integrate in the workplace to compete for new business within the international supply chain.”

“This interactive training is an opportunity to enhance career satisfaction and understand better how to meet the needs of clients.”

Course training modules include industry case studies, risk management, strategic partnerships, value adding, traffic and logistics functional planning, meeting client expectations, biosecurity, working with brokers, pitfalls of booking notes, and preparing quotations.

Business communication addresses crisis communications, persuasive email, cultural communication, pitching with PowerPoint and how to write winning tenders.

A project management course held in conjunction with the Breakbulk Africa Congress in Johannesburg in February, 2015, is specifically designed to meet the needs of African logistics businesses handling complex heavy-lift transportations.
The ISO-accredited Certificate in Project Cargo Management professional development course is scheduled for 16-17 February as part of the education program during the Congress at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Course trainers include Kevin Stephens, the founder and general manager of project forwarding network, the Project Professionals Group, and business communication educator Rodger Hall.
Mr Stephens said the training course was timely as Africa geared up for large projects such as new railways, ports and airports and the continuing expansion of the energy sector.
Mr Stephens said the training course modules focused on up-skilling attendees to confidently manage multi-model cargo transportation, and refresh their thinking about project forwarding requirements.
Course presentations also target business writing and presentation skills to improve project communications with clients and colleagues.
“This course is ideal for African companies wanting to demonstrate to clients that they have the capabilities to successfully transport high value cargos that require complex logistics solutions,” Mr Stephens said.
“Project cargo clients want to know that their forwarders have the skills and knowledge to deliver on time and within budget. Completing the Certificate of Achievement in Project Cargo Management provides the knowledge to ensure potential pitfalls are understood and eliminated.”
